Eyelid Surgery Procedure Wipes Away Years

Eyelid Surgery Procedure (Blepharoplasty) Works Wonders

Many people feel young and full of energy, but their faces may tell a different story.  If you have droopy eyelids or under eye bags, your entire face gives the appearance of being exhausted, tired and older.

The first signs of aging usually appears in your eyes. Laxity in the skin above and below the eyes can occur as early as your 30s.  While sun damage and other lifestyle choices can speed up the aging process, your genetic makeup is the biggest indicator.  If your parents had eyelid laxity when they were in their 30s or 40s, you will too.

Fortunately, eyelid surgery, known as blepharoplasty, is a remarkable procedure that can readily address aging eyes and restore your youthful appearance.  It is a very popular procedure for both men and women in their 30’s and 40’s because it can have such a significant impact with very little downtime or discomfort. A lot of professionals have this surgery because they feel it is important to maintain a younger look.

An upper lid blepharoplasty or eyelid lift, removes excess skin from the upper lids.  A lower lid blepharoplasty removes any excess skin and bags, which are actually fat pads.  The majority of patients need a lift on both the upper and lower eyelids together.

The eyelid surgery procedure (blepharoplasty) can be done under IV sedation in our FPSA fully accredited office surgical suite.  It requires only one to two hours of surgery.  After surgery the eyelids may be bruised and swollen temporarily, but most patients return to work within five to seven days. The results are long lasting and effectively provides instant facial rejuvenation without anyone having to know you had anything done.

Houston Facial Plastic Surgeon Dr. Kridel and Dr. Sturm are the best blepharoplasty surgeons in Houston.  As facial plastic surgery specialists they are highly trained specifically in the anatomy of the head and neck.

Dr. Kridel and Dr. Sturm have published a scientific journal article about eyelid surgery and Dr. Kridel has published over 100 additional scientific journal articles and textbook chapters on all aspects of facial rejuvenation, including blepharoplasty.

FPSA Office-Based Surgery Facility Certified by AAAHC

Celebrate With Us!

We are so proud to share the news that our office-based Facial Plastic Surgery Associates (FPSA) Surgery Facility in Houston, TX, has been certified by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).   AAAHC is an independent, not-for-profit organization, that completes an extensive assessment and on-site survey by AAAHC expert surveyors – physicians, nurses, and administrators who are actively involved in ambulatory health care.

Status as an AAAHC accredited organization distinguishes our office-based surgery center from many other outpatient facilities.  It means Facial Plastic Surgery Associates has met nationally recognized standards for the provision of quality health care set by AAAHC.

Going through the accreditation process is voluntary and extremely thorough. More than 5,000 ambulatory health care organizations across the United States are accredited by AAAHC.  However, not all facilities put themselves through this expensive and complex process and not all that go through the process actually achieve certification.

In addition, through the accreditation process, FPSA Associate, Dr. Angela Sturm O’Brien became a Board-Certified Infection Preventionist with the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC). An Infection Preventionist is someone in the healthcare field that studies about the potential infections that a patient can acquire and how to prevent them. As the Board-Certified Infection Preventionist for our operating facility, Dr. Sturm-O’Brien acts as the “go to”  for reporting infections, practices to prevent infections (handwashing, etc) and planning for any construction or changes in the layout in the facility and how it will impact the patients.

What does this mean to our patients?

Seeing the AAAHC logo displayed in our front office says more than our facility is accredited — it gives patients the peace of mind that we care about them having the best care possible and that we hold ourselves to the highest standards. Status as an AAAHC accredited organization means Facial Plastic Surgery Associates has met nationally recognized standards for the provision of quality health care.

As Dr. Russell Kridel, facial plastic surgeon, says, “I am so pleased.  Our patients deserve the best.  We want our patients to feel comfortable knowing that our operating room facility has met these exacting standards.  We also like to provide the option of office-based surgery for some facial plastic surgery procedures such as blepharoplasty, because patients often prefer the personal attention of our fabulous staff and the convenience of our lovely environment.”
