About Dr. Russell Kridel

Houston Texas facial plastic surgeon Russell W. H. Kridel, MD, FACS has been in private practice since 1981. He specializes in cosmetic surgery of the face and neck, with an emphasis on cosmetic and reconstructive rhinoplasty and aging face surgery. Dr. Kridel currently performs over 70 cosmetic nasal surgeries per year and is a noted expert in primary and revision rhinoplasty and nasal reconstruction following accidents or unsuccessful surgeries performed elsewhere.  Patients from all over the world come to Dr. Kridel to have him do their revisions and  septal perforation repair surgeries.  He is a noted specialist in these very difficult surgical procedures.  Also, he has published the largest series in the world on the use of specialized cartilage grafting in nose reconstruction. Techniques in nasal surgery he has developed are taught routinely to other students and doctors.  Additionally, Dr. Kridel is board certified not only in facial plastic surgery but also in otolaryngology (ENT).  So you can breathe easier knowing your surgeon not only understands aesthetics but also the breathing function of your nose.

Besides the specialties of Dr. Kridel — face lifts and nose surgeries–other procedures offered regularly are: otoplasty, cheek implants, anti-aging treatments like wrinkle fillers such as Restylane and Sculptra, BOTOX and Dysport injections, brow and forehead lifts, chemical peels, hair transplantation, chin augmentation, double chin removal, facial liposuction, skincare, and superficial and medium-depth peels. He is also a recognized laser expert and has six state-of-the-art lasers that are used to address a variety of patient concerns, ranging from tattoo and birthmark removal to the elimination of wrinkles and hair.

Dr. Kridel is a well known speaker, and has given many lectures and courses on facial plastic surgery throughout the United States, as well as in Italy, Colombia, Spain, Dubai, Jordan, Mexico, Canada, Egypt, Holland and Japan, as well as hosting the annual Rodeo Rhinoplasty meeting here in Houston, Texas—a meeting attended by facial plastic surgeons from all over the country and countries abroad to share vital information with medical colleagues who are interested in bettering their skills.

He has published over 60 book chapters and scientific articles in medical journals, and was one of the contributing authors of The Face Book, a patient’s guide to facial plastic surgery published by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.  Amazingly, he is the one Houston facial plastic surgeon who actually has patient photographs in Encyclopedia Britannica and Compton’s Encyclopedia. He also has written chapters for textbooks on cosmetic surgery, has introduced a technique that is now a required part of study courses for residents, has edited a book on revision rhinoplasty (a procedure people come from all over the world to have him do), and his vast range of experience not only makes Dr. Kridel a sought-after speaker at meetings and courses nationwide, but his innovations and techniques make him an A-list interviewee for all forms of media.

Dr. Kridel became board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology (ABO) in 1981.  In 1984, he became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.  He has been a Fellowship Director for the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery since 1985, and he is responsible every year for the training of a Fellow in facial plastic surgery.  In 1991, he was certified by and became one of the first Fellows of the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ABFPRS).  He currently serves as Senior Advisor to the Board of Directors of the ABFPRS and has been a Board examiner in Facial Plastic Surgery for both the ABO and the ABFPRS.  He was certified by the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery in 1987, giving him a total of three board certifications.

Dr. Kridel is a full clinical Professor on the faculty at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, and he is on the medical staff of several Houston hospitals.  He has been Chief of Staff of HealthSouth Hospital for Specialized Surgery and Chief of Surgery at Sam Houston Hospital.  Dr. Kridel was national President of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) from 2000-2001.  He previously served as AAFPRS Vice President for Public Affairs, Treasurer, and as a member of the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors.  Additionally, Dr. Kridel is currently a Delegate to the American Medical Association representing facial plastic surgery, and is a Harris County Delegate to the Texas Medical Association.  He served as Vice President and on the Ethics Committee of the Harris County Medical Society for three years and is a past President of the Central City Branch of the Harris County Medical Society.  Dr. Kridel is an officer and on the Board of Directors of the Texas Medical Association Foundation and was elected to the prestigious Council on Science and Public Health of the American Medical Association in 2007.
